Useful in that it casts loads of nuking spells really quickly, slightly less vulnerable to interrupts than a normal ele because of this, though has reduced damage. Best I can really do for a mesmer, theyre not one of my main professions...

^ Fast Casting doesn't particularly matter in PvE. You might as well play an ele with that bar. At least you get Runes...

I use Mantra of Recovery, Auspicious Incantation, Wandering Eye, Clumsiness, Power Return, Power Drain, and Res Signet.

Aoe Snare with Deep Freeze. I always use it with SF eles or Dervishes.

Clumsiness and Wandering eye on clumped up targets allow for massive armor ignoring dmg.

Power Return since giving energy doesn't really matter in PvE.

Pretty easy build to play and blows up stuff fast!

Mesmers are amazing in the right hands! Don't let the crazy armor fool ya.

some of my favorites:

Fragile and Inept

Illusion 16
Fire 2 (do not exceed this value)
Inspiration 10-11
rest in fast cast.

Use a fire wand and illusion off-hand

Conjure nightmare
Fragility
Auspicious Incantation
Mark of Rodgort
Accumulated pain
Ineptitude
Power Drain/interupt of choice/cry of pain/fire storm
Ether Feast/rez

Conjure for -8 degen. Fragility + Mark of Rodgort + fire wand damage = 42 damage and burning every second. Mark burns for 1 second. Just enough time to trigger fragilty twice before the next wand hit. Ouch it hurts bad. Accumulated pain causes deep wound which also activates fragility. Ineptitude causes 142 damage, blindness, plus activates fragility if they attack. Unreal damage and conditions to spare. Don't bring a fire ele on this run. The wand has perfect timing.

Damages much faster than Virulence at puts the kill on anything standing. Don't use this build on destroyers but mostly everything else burns.

Frustrated and Inept

16 Illusion
10-11-12 Inspiration
7 air
rest in fast cast

Frustration
Arcane Corundum
Auspricious Incantation
Conjure Nightmare
Lightning Javelin
Power Return
Cry of Pain
Ineptitude
Ether feast/rez

Caster killer. Melee frustration. Conjure brings -8 degen. Frustation and Arcane Cor slows those spells way down allowing for power return, cry, and interupt from ineptitude (if using a wand or staff) to deal +53 damage on interupt on spell caster. Power return is used because of quick recharge. Frustration + lightning javalin on melee or as casters start wanding plus Ineptitude. Lightning javelin interupts attacks and attack skills and works with frustration. You can do 80+ points (53 from frustration and 30+ from lightning javelin) of damage to attacking melee folks and disrupt those adrenaline skills every 2-3 seconds. You want to piss off a hammer warrior? Use lightning javelin to counter Counter Blow, lol. Ineptitude seals the deal. If they attack with Ineptitude and frustration up, they take almost 200 points of damage plus blindness. Add cry of pain and you got a party.

Signet of illusion is also the most powerful and versatile elite in the game. You can run builds from every caster class without difficulty and still do crazy illusion degen. It maxes out all PVE non-elite skills! Too many builds to even start to write them down for the Signet.

I just completed almost every dungeon in HM with h/h on my mesmer using a supplementary build to fuel 3 discord spikers. Here it is if anyone is interested.

[build prof=me/n fast=12+1 illusion=12+1+1 curses=3][fragility][power return][necrosis][you move like a dwarf][shared burden][weaken armor][illusion of pain][signet of corruption][/build]

Usage is pretty simple, Its your job to make sure foes are hexed and suffering a condition at all times while assisting the spike with necrosis. You can also use [[you move like a dwarf] as an interrupt if needed.
Shared burden, althoguh normally not a very good elite shines in this setup as its a cheap AoE hex that lasts a very long time while keeping foes snared. Weaken armour is there are a cheap AoE condition.

Here are the hero builds.

[build prof=n/mo death=12+1+1 healing=9 soul=8+1 curses=5][discord][enfeebling blood][animate shambling horror][death nova][malign intervention][rip enchantment][veratas gaze][dwaynas sorrow][/build]

[build prof=n/mo death=12+1+1 prot=9 soul=9+1][discord][animate shambling horror][blood of the master][death nova][veratas aura][resurrection signet][aegis][protective spirit][/build]

[build prof=n/rt death=12+1+1 soul=8+1 restoration=12][discord][mend body and soul][spirit light][vengeful weapon][life][foul feast][protective was kaolai][flesh of my flesh][/build]

Res options can be changed around of course, as can the build concepts. This setup offers a large army of minions in no time at all, great support and healing, enchant removal, backup hex+condition and even more damage with death nova.

Heroes are amazing at using discord now. if you use [[fragility] & [[you move like a dwarf] on a single target they will proceed to spike it in unison.
You can also increase their effectiveness by binding their discord to your keyboard. (gaming keyboards make it even better.)

The skillbars look a litlle cluttered but make full useage of a heroes strengths while being free from their weaknesses. The dungeons i did compelete with this setup where a breeze. It seems spike realy does work in PvE, especially when you can spike down a foe every 2 seconds.

stop trying to make a mesmer into a nuker/mm/melee/anything other than a mesmer.
the mesmer's skills are almost always conditional and depend on the player's knowledge of the enemies as well as their teammates builds to really work.
so if you're looking for the best nuker, go make an ele! don't bother tweaking a class meant for one thing into an almost-as-efficient version of another.

What about something like:

Along with some more energy management, one area where a Mesmer truly excels, you can either keep a single foe disabled and perpetually taking armor-ignoring damage, or spread damage and degen around grouped foes. One might argue that a N/Me could do this just as well with less need for energy management, but I believe that the trade-off would essentially be that of less damage for more energy, which is not always desirable.


Also, a major strength of [Signet of Illusions] that no one seems to have mentioned yet is that it perfectly allows a Mesmer to do what it wants to do; use skills from many different attributes. What SoI does, that no other profession can do, is allow a Mesmer to have 16 in EVERY attribute of both professions as well as for PvE spells.

Essentially, a Me/E could sacrifice a large energy pool, replacing it with e-management, and play something like:

[build prof=Me/E Illusion=12+1+3 Fast=12+1 air=16, fire=16 insp=16 water=16][Signet of Illusions][Shell Shock][Deft Strike][auspicious incantation][rodgort's invocation][steam][epidemic][Signet of infection][/build]

What does this mean? Burning (3s), Blind (10s), Cracked Armor (21s), Bleeding (10-30s), Disease (8-20s), and 127 fire damage to all foes adjacent to target. (I assume the target survives the approximate 7 seconds it would take to cast the spells left to right, coming back to the Signet after Auspicious.) You could also try to fit in [Technobabble] or ["Finish Him!"] for even greater utility.

Alternatively, for pure damage, there's:
[build prof=Me/E Illusion=12+1+3 Fast=12+1 Fire=16 air=16 water=16 insp=16][Signet of Illusions][Glyph of Lesser energy][Deep Freeze][breath of fire][Arc Lightning][auspicious incantation][rodgort's invocation][Liquid Flame][/build]

An E/Me could never come close to this kind of variety AND effectiveness in their spells, but a Mesmer pulls it off with no problem and in half the time it would take an Ele to cast the same spells.

I win.

I know that failing at PvE is almost an impossible job, but it seems you somehow pulled it off!
The mesmer IS one hell of a PvE nuker!

Sure! (AP is pretty much the elite version of SR - so energy isn't exactly something to worry about. Plus you do get to unload some 250+ chaos damage per target, on each target - so DPS isn't THAT bad.)
Well - outside of SW/AR. I'd take a real ritualist for that. Why settle for 10 when you can go 14? (Especially since those two skills are pretty much the best thing on that skillbar.)
But if 10 does the trick - I'd grab a necro and chaos nuke with him.

He's just being awkward because its "shadow" not "chaos" damage. But with no specific triggers for either in game they arepractically the same thing.
